Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai (2012)

A tale of two cities : Now a Marathi film titled “Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai” will target the sensibilities of both the cities. Though there is a huge cultural difference between Pune and Mumbai, the two cities who are geographically linked to each other, share a love and hate relationship. Their diverse lifestyles often create humour in the lives of the people residing in these cities. A Marathi film titled Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai will endeavour to capture their emotions, and try to bring them closer to each other..!s the name suggest, I was expecting Pune- Mumbai – Pune to be a road movie on the lines of Bombay to Goa or Jab We Met. But director Satish Rajwade gave me a pleasant surprise making it a very different and vibrant RomCom in Marathi.

For long, Pune – Mumbai cities and its people have shared love and hate relationship with each other. Pune people find Mumbai life to be very fast and hectic and Mumbai people find Pune life very dull and laid back. So how about a romantic comedy based on the people from both these cities?

A girl (Mukta Barve)from Mumbai come to Pune to meet her prospective groom to “refuse” him. As with many outsiders, who finds it very difficult to get Pune address, she also gets the taste of some Puneri Zatka’s. Finally when she reaches the groom address, only to find his house is locked. So she decides to wait for him to reject him!!!

Coincidentally she meets stranger youth (Swapnil Joshi) who is playing “galli cricket” nearby and very proud to be Puneri. Due to some other co-incidences they have to spend entire day with each other. Now what happens next is anybody can guess. But the way it is unfolded , is truly awesome.

Movie has only these 2 characters. When you mount the movie, based on two characters, it is bound to get bore. But director Satish Rajwade and dialogue writer Parag Kulkarni, have done awesome job in this department. You never get a single dull moment in the movie. For that credit should also go to Mukta Barve and Swapnil Joshi who have pitched in their career best performances.

Movie is entirely shot at Pune (Lokmanya Nagar, Singhad fort, Sarasbag, Tulshibag, Dagdushet Ganpati, J M Road,) which also act as a third character. Music is also good and so is DOP.

Go and enjoy this journey as early as possible. Movie has got very little screen space due to multiple marthi movie releases. Next week Ravaan will occupy more space. So take the special time off from your schedule and watch it coz it will put brilliant smile on your face !!
